Callide Oxyfuel Project Final Results Report

The Callide Oxyfuel project was undertaken in three parts: Stage 1 – Demonstration of oxyfuel CO2 capture; Stage 2 – assessment of CO2 storage options and potential in Queensland and CO2 injection testing; and Stage 3 – Project wrap-up and commercialisation. The work and outcomes of these three phases are summarised in this report.

ZeroGen with IGCC: A Case History

In 2008 ZeroGen embarked upon a major Prefeasibility Study (PFS) for a nominal 500 MW Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) plant with carbon capture and storage (CCS) in Central Queensland. This included capture, transport and storage of some 60–90 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) over a 30-year period. This is a summary of the project results and lessons learnt.

Wandoan Power Project: Prefeasibility Study Knowledge Sharing Report

This pre-feasibility study assessed the viability of an integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) power station capturing 90 per cent of CO2 from the fuel stream for transport and storage by CTSCo Pty Ltd. This report provides a summary of the project’s results and lessons learnt.

NSW CO2 Storage Assessment Program: Final Report on Stage 1B Darling Basin Drilling

This report provides the results of this program which was aimed at filling gaps in knowledge of the deeper geology of the NSW sedimentary basins, assessing the CO2 geological storage potential of these basins, and learning more about the sealing characteristics of these strata.

Net Zero Emission Electricity - A Total Systems Cost Approach for Queensland

This study examines the role that existing power generation technologies, renewables, gas, and carbon capture and storage (CCS) could play in achieving Queensland’s target of zero emissions by 2050. This report complements the ‘Managing Flexibility Whilst Decarbonising Electricity’ report in its purpose but restricts its scope to the Queensland context. This research was conducted with the University of Queensland as part of its Surat Deep Aquifer Appraisal Project (UQ-SDAAP) and was funded by COAL21.

Australian Power Generation Technology Report

Looking out to 2030, this report costs commercially available and rapidly-emerging technologies used for power including their emissions intensity, technical efficiencies, and water use. The technologies covered included fossil fuels, solar thermal and solar PV, onshore wind, geothermal, hydro-electric, nuclear, and energy storage technologies.

Managing Flexibility Whilst Decarbonising Electricity

The National Electricity Market has embarked on a pathway to gradual decarbonisation.  Data is needed to help solve challenges for existing generation fleet and new technologies.  This report gives insights into a new modelling approach and initial results to encourage a different energy conversation.

Retrofitting CCS to Coal: Enhancing Australia’s Energy Security

This is a supplementary report to the 2015 Australian Power Generation Technology Report (APGT). The retrofitting report responds to the opportunities for retrofitting brown and black coal plants in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland and provides an analysis of retrofitting coal fired power stations with carbon capture and storage (CCS).

Prospects for a HELE USC Coal-fired Power Station

This report outlines the findings from an initial concept-level assessment of the viability of developing a high-efficiency, low emissions (HELE) ultra-super critical coal-fired power station in the National Electricity Market (NEM).
